Scott Cuthbertson is redefining how communities and companies approach economic development.
As President & Chief Executive Officer of the Economic Development Corporation of Utah (EDCUtah), he led one of the nation’s top-performing economies, delivering over $22 billion in capital investment and 20,000 new jobs for a state of just 3.5 million people in 3 years. While there he launched the state’s first office in Asia focused on attracting FDI and strategic industries into the state and oversaw the largest capital investment project in state history.
Before leading EDCUtah, Scott served as Chief Operating Officer for The Point, a transformative 700-acre development in the Salt Lake City metro area. In this role, he led the planning of a sustainable, transit-oriented community designed to support approximately 15,000 residents and create up to 46,500 jobs, contributing an estimated $7 billion annually to Utah’s GDP. The project has garnered national and international attention for its ambitious scale and commitment to sustainable urban growth.
Prior to his economic development leadership, Scott had a 15 year career in management consulting at PwC and Booz Allen Hamilton. There he advised Fortune 100 companies, institutional investors, and public agencies on high-impact capital projects across five continents. He now champions a new, data-driven approach to economic development—leveraging AI, proprietary data sets, and deep expertise to better align communities and companies for long-term success.
Scott holds an undergraduate degree from BYU and masters degrees from Georgetown University and the University of Oxford. He has served on several boards focused on infrastructure, innovation, and opportunity including as an appointed Commissioner on Utah Governor Spencer Cox's Unified Economic Opportunity Commission, an appointee to Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall's Housing Trust Fund Advisory Board, and as a national director on the Public Development and Infrastructure Council at the Urban Land Institute. An avid traveler and outdoors enthusiast, he lives in the Salt Lake City area with his wife and three daughters.
